About Me
Hello!
My name is Kaitlin and I'm an Air Force veteran who has been making cakes for over 5 years now -- if you truly include my first fondant cake, it would be nearly 12 years working on cakes!
I have 2 young kids, and they have been my true inspiration in exploring special custom cakes :) from smash cakes to birthday cakes and Pre-K graduation cakes! Then, as the support from friends and family grew, I've taken the dive into creating my own small business: Kait's Custom Cakes in honor of my grandmother.
Since making cakes is not my primary job (I do have a full time job AND 2 little kiddos of my own), I have limited availability each month for creating these oh-so-fun cakes -> hopefully the timelines line up and I can help you make your design come true in a cake!
A Little More... on cake
I live in Aurora, CO near Grandview High School -- and it is in my very own home that I make these cakes! I am a completely self-taught baker and decorator, and I have always enjoyed crafts and being creative since I was young. That combined with a drive to try and help others, I've found a joy in making something special via cake. As I mentioned above, my first cake was a basic fondant cake with a flat fondant flower on top -- I was so proud and knew I wanted to learn MUCH more. So what did I do? I tried out gum paste, fondant cutouts and learned how to make my own frosting for different applications (filling vs flowers) -- not every cake was a success (even though the fondant airplane looked neat, it was so heavy!) but each time I tried, I LEARNED and got better.
Fortunately through family and friends support, I've gotten to learn a lot and now can create most of what I set out to learn and do! I've also built quite a supply of helpful tools at home :) They have also helped support me in believing I should share what I've been able to accomplish by creating this very website: my own small business of Kait's Custom Cakes
